Janine has transformed her unique passion for wine into an iconic brand. After many years of working with major names in the wine industry, Janine created and launched her own wine company called J9 Wines. Using her extensive knowledge of the business winemaking, marketing, and distribution, Janine has sourced her wine from the best winemakers of the world-renowned Western Cape Winelands of South Africa. As a single mother of two, Janine takes pride in being one of South Africa’s youngest black-owned wine companies on the African continent. As she says “I’ve achieved what many women in my community would die to achieve, and was only possible through hard work and perseverance.”
Please tell us how your company came about:
j9Wine(Pty)Ltd was founded by Janine Petersen in 2016, who turned her passion for wine into an iconic brand.
After having worked extensively with big names in the wine industry of South Africa, Janine used her experience and ventured into creating the j9Wine range. She sold her car and invested her life savings to get j9Wine off the ground.
Janine continued to develop her knowledge in the wine industry and is now a female Wine Maker. Sourcing grapes from across the coastal regions of the Western Cape and collaborating with only the finest winemakers in South Africa.
Should you be busy with any interesting initiatives, please tell us a little more about them.
We started the #wineofcolorSA trend for younger wine brands to gain access to markets anywhere in the world with money-in-the-bank results. This is to contribute to the huge unemployment gap that we are currently facing among the youth and to impact the forward movement of Women in Wine and people of colour in the wine industry of South Africa.
A great way for Non-Commercial younger wine brands owned and produced by people of Color in South Africa to gain access to the National and International markets!
